Cracking Magic (8) — Checklist

When doing the selection process for the material in your archive, it is of enormous help of having a checklist with the most important questions about the item to be added. This list is optimized for the casual performer and hobbyist, the pros will have their own way of doing the selections already.

It is very easy to work with. Whatever it is you want to add to your archives, may it be routines, tricks, props, gimmicks, sleights, books or video material, first go through this list and answer those questions honestly. Use the check boxes. Finally, compare the amount of “yes” with the “nos”.

More “yes” and the thing probably is worth adding. The other way round: better forget it (garbage can or bullshit list). I have been using this checklist for years and it really helps. It makes you think about the stuff in depth, hopefully improving your selection making skills.

Eventually, your archive should change into a solid working repertoire with good, effective and usable stuff inside.
